JOB DUTIES
The Camp Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of
all campers and staff during the duration of the camp program. This role provides direct medical care, manages health records, administers
medications, and ensures compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. The Camp Nurse works closely with the Camp Director and
staff to maintain a safe and responsive environment for all participants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conduct pre-camp review of camper and staff health records,
including immunization documentation, medical histories, and emergency contact information - Perform health screenings and assessments
as needed to ensure participants are medically cleared for camp activities - Provide first aid and medical care for injuries and
illnesses, including but not limited to minor wounds, sprains, allergic reactions, insect bites, and common illnesses - Assess medical
situations promptly and determine appropriate course of action, including escalation to emergency medical services when
necessary - Administer medications in accordance with physician instructions and maintain accurate medication administration records
(MARs) - Maintain and securely store all health records in compliance with applicable privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA as
applicable) - Monitor for signs of communicable illnesses and take appropriate action to mitigate risk, including notifying leadership
and recommending exclusion when necessary - Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding health concerns, incidents, and
required follow-up care - Collaborate with Camp Director and staff to support health-related policies and ensure a safe camp
environment - Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment; coordinate ordering and restocking as needed
- Document all
injuries, treatments, and incidents in accordance with camp policies and reporting requirements - Provide guidance and training to
staff on basic first aid, health protocols, and emergency procedures as needed - Participate in emergency preparedness planning and
response, including coordination with external medical services when required - Perform other duties as assigned in support of camp
operations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No supervisory responsibilities – but co-ordination with other camp
nurse required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a temporary, seasonal position aligned with the duration of
the Tomato Patch summer program. - Please note that assigned tasks and responsibilities span both campuses for all MCCC
positions.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key
board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. - Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally
and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other
sedentary criteria are met.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to
respond effectively in emergency situations and make sound medical decisions - Knowledge of pediatric and adolescent health care
practices - Familiarity with communicable disease protocols and prevention
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping
skills - Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive medical information appropriately
- Excellent interpersonal
and communication skills with children, parents, and staff - Ability to work independently while collaborating with camp
leadership
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good
standing - Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid
certification - Experience administering medications and maintaining medical documentation
- Ability to successfully pass a
background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Three (3) or
more years of nursing experience - Prior experience as a school nurse, camp nurse, or in pediatric care
- Experience working
with children ages 7-18 - Familiarity with emergency response protocols in recreational or educational
settings
