Job Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) serves as a critical
member of the Tuskegee University Public Safety Division and is responsible for providing emergency medical response services, supporting
emergency preparedness efforts, and protecting the health, safety, and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position
supports campus operations through emergency response, event coverage, training, and collaboration with public safety and emergency response
partners. This position is designated as Essential Personnel.

Essential Job Duties

  • Respond to emergency and
    non-emergency medical incidents throughout campus.
  • Provide emergency medical care consistent with certification level and Alabama
    EMS protocols.
  • Support athletic events, student activities, commencement ceremonies, and special events.
  • Coordinate
    response efforts with University Police, local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS providers, hospitals, emergency management
    agencies, and mutual aid partners.
  • Participate in campus emergency preparedness planning, drills, exercises, and incident command
    activities.
  • Complete patient care reports, incident reports, and required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Maintain
    emergency medical equipment, medications, supplies, and response readiness.
  • Maintain required certifications, licensure, and
    continuing education requirements.
  • Serve as an essential employee during emergencies, weather events, campus closures, and
    operational disruptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized
Training)

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current Alabama Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License issued
    by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH), Office of EMS and Trauma.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life
    Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification.
  • Valid Alabama Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to maintain all required certifications and licensure throughout employment.

Preferred Competencies

  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Certification.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
    Certification.
  • FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200 Certifications.
  • National Incident Management System
    (NIMS) 700 Certification.
  • Stop the Bleed Certification.
  • Experience in higher education, ambulance services, fire rescue,
    public safety, or emergency response operations.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, carry, move, and
    transport patients, medical equipment, and emergency response supplies.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb stairs,
    and work on uneven surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate emergency medical equipment and perform lifesaving
    procedures.
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to assess patient conditions, monitor medical equipment, identify hazards, and
    communicate effectively.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to maintain physical stamina
    necessary to respond to multiple incidents and prolonged emergency operations.
