In a major change to its examination process, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2026 provisional answer key before the completion of the final result process for the first time.Candidates who appeared for the UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 examination can now check the answer key through the official website, upsc.gov.in. The commission has also opened a dedicated Question Paper Representation Portal for candidates who want to raise objections against any answer.The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 was conducted on May 24 in two shifts across the country for recruitment to services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).More than 8 lakh candidates appeared for the examination this year.

  • Download the provisional answer key PDF.
  • Match your responses with the official answers to estimate your score.

UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 answer key: Objection process

Candidates who are not satisfied with any answer mentioned in the provisional key can submit objections through the online representation portal.While submitting challenges, candidates will also have to upload supporting documents and explanations for their claims. Subject experts appointed by UPSC will review all objections before preparing the final answer key.The commission has clarified that the final answer key will continue to be released after the completion of the entire examination cycle.

UPSC CSE Prelims 2026: Major procedural reform

The early release of the provisional answer key is being seen as one of the biggest procedural reforms introduced by UPSC in recent years.Earlier, candidates mostly depended on unofficial answer keys released by coaching institutes to estimate their scores after the examination.With the release of the official provisional answer key, candidates will now be able to assess their performance more accurately and begin preparation for the Mains examination without waiting for unofficial solutions.

UPSC CSE Prelims 2026: Exam statistics

According to UPSC, the examination was conducted at 2,072 centres across 83 cities in India.Out of 8.19 lakh registered candidates, around 67 per cent appeared for the examination. The number of registrations and attendance was lower compared to last year, when nearly 9.5 lakh candidates had registered and around 5.8 lakh appeared for the exam.Delhi recorded the highest number of candidates with 70,885 candidates appearing across 144 centres. Hyderabad followed with 44,209 candidates at 100 centres, while Patna recorded 39,147 candidates across 79 centres.Kargil in Ladakh had the lowest number of candidates, with 98 candidates appearing at one centre.Candidates can visit the official UPSC website for the provisional answer key, objection process, and further updates regarding the Civil Services Examination 2026.
