Hollywood excitement hits Macon’s College Hill as “The Comeback King” films scenes, offering locals a chance to be extras and mingle with stars.
MACON, Ga. — Film crews are set to roll into Macon over the next two weeks, bringing lights, cameras — and a bit of Hollywood buzz — to local neighborhoods.
Production for the movie “The Comeback King” begins Monday, with several scenes scheduled to be filmed along College Street in the College Hill neighborhood near Mercer University.
“The Comeback King” is an upcoming comedy film directed by Judd Apatow, who has directed other feature films such as “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”, “Knocked Up”, and “The King of Staten Island.”
It stars Glen Powell as “a country western star who experiences a dramatic downfall and must navigate their career in free fall.” Powell will act alongside Cristin Milioti, Madelyn Cline, and comedian Stavros Halkias.
Residents say they’ve already been notified about the changes.
“They actually taped a notice to our front doors — I think most of us on the street got the notices,” said Katie Ward.
Ward says the notice outlined filming schedules and road closures.
“They told us about when they would be shooting, the different times. They explained what roads will be closed,” she said.
Ward says she decided to join in on the action.
“They’re going to be filming a volleyball scene, so I get to be in the crowd during the volleyball scene,” she said.
Ward, who graduates from law school next week, said she wanted to do something fun before leaving town.
Ward isn’t the only resident hoping for a close-up.
Her neighbor, Madison Kanuth, says she’s also planning to be involved.
“We probably will, because we are so close to the campus — and hopefully we will see Glen Powell walking around,” Kanuth said.
“Ask him out or something,” she said.
Both women say they’re excited for the chance to appear as extras — and maybe even meet the film’s star.
Filming in Macon is scheduled to begin Monday and continue through May 15. There are roles for extras.
