Description

UM Campus Dining invites applications for a Lodge Supervisor to oversee the Lodge operation. This position is responsible for student training, development, and shift supervision. It reports directly to the Lodge Assistant Director.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with effective labor, managing their own daily tasks efficiently, and those of student or temporary employees
  • Set and maintain high standards for serving, presenting and storing all food and beverage items
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with incoming parents and students, the Residence Life Office, Resident Assistants (RAs), Intercollegiate Athletics, and all guests of the Lodge
  • Actively involved in all aspects of guest service, opening and closing tasks related to the Lodge operation
  • Assist with the development and implementation of special event activities for a progressive collegiate residential dining operation
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment by ensuring that all sanitation, food handling and safety regulations are followed at all times
  • Direct and supervise up to 25 student employees daily

Minimum Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in a foodservice environment
  • Experience working with college students as employees and guests, or similar experience
  • Experience in the front-of-the-house working with guests and employees in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Demonstrated experience with effectively training employees new to the workforce
  • Serv-Safe certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment, class offered free by UMCD
  • Experience with standard food service reports and time-temperature logs
  • Demonstrated experience in addressing personnel issues and dealing effectively with conflict
  • Experience with written and verbal communication skills in a professional environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge working collegiate events
  • Knowledge of working within a union environment
  • Two (2) years of experience working in college or university foodservice
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives such as serving local foods, composting programs, and similar sustainable business practices

Position Number: 100770

Compensation Title: Culinary Services Supervisor II

Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Hours vary due to needs of the unit, 12 months/year

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
