Here is summer, gently knocking at our door, with promises of outdoor film screenings and snacking under the pink sky at sunset and cooler evenings and excellent cultural offerings enjoyed in beautiful and surprising settings.

Cinespia has long been one of summer’s early-to-arrive representatives, for a quarter century now, and when film fans learn that the Hollywood Forever Cemetery screenings will soon be back, the planning begins.

So jump into the group chat and begin booking dates, call a film-obsessed friend, or, yes, even “phone home”: Cinespia is marking its merry-movie milestone — that’s 25 years — with a season of splendid cinema.

The outdoor film series, which has been associated with the final and famous Tinseltown resting place for years, is also known for visiting spots like Vidiots in Eagle Rock and some of the Downtown Los Angeles movie palaces at various times of the year.

But Hollywood Forever is its feels-like-forever summer home, and “home” will be one of the themes of the first flick of Cinespia’s 25th season: It’s our phoning-home buddy, a certain sweetheart from outer space who will be back to soothe our spirits with his warm heartlight and unquenchable hankering for Reese’s Pieces.

“E.T. The Extraterrestrial” will flicker May 23, with two great films to follow as May winds down: “Moulin Rouge” will energetically can-can into our worlds May 24 and David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive” is ready to whisk us to Club Silencio May 30.

Charming cosmic travelers, the Green Fairy, and mysterious Old Hollywood cowboys are quite the starting line-up to a stellar and celebratory season.

“Reaching 25 years is both surreal and incredibly meaningful and we are very thankful to Los Angeles and our customers for their support,” said John Wyatt, founder of Cinespia.

“What started as a simple idea, to watch great films with others in a unique setting, has grown into something much bigger. At its core, Cinespia has always been about a shared experience and connection, and that’s what continues to bring people back year after year.”

Tickets are on sale but do keep in mind that parking is priced separately. And, as always, a lavishly themed and totally free photo booth will be on the grounds, so don your best Elliott look, or Satine couture, for a snapshot to remember.
