College/Department Information
Located conveniently in Augusta’s downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional
nursing care to veterans of Georgia who have served in the armed forces during war times. The home is owned and funded by the Georgia
Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University. Through this association, Georgia War
Veterans Nursing Home is considered a leader in the area of geriatric educational training for Augusta University.
Job Summary
The Staff Nurse possesses knowledge regarding State, Federal, VA and The Joint Commission guidelines governing long-term care. This
person is responsible for supervising employees in all nursing units. The person in this role ensures that individualized quality patient
care is provided for all patients and serves as the supervisor for the facility.
Responsibilities
The duties include,
but are not limited to:
PATIENT CARE: Assists nursing personnel in the administration for total patient care and serve as
Charge Nurse or Medication Nurse for a nursing unit as assigned. Serve as Supervisor for the facility as needed. Provides support to nursing
unit/staff throughout the facility. Assess patients as needed and contact Physician, as needed.
NURSING SUPERVISOR: Serve as
Nursing Supervisor for the facility. Provide support to nursing staff throughout the facility. Assess patients as needed and contact
Physician, as indicated.
RESOURCES: Provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material
resources.
PROBLEM SOLVING: Participate in problem solving affecting the care of patients with complex needs by assisting in
the development of individualized patient care plans. Assess progress made toward objective goals. Assist in the development and
implementation of policies and procedures designed to affect the efficiency of nursing care
EMERGENCIES: Respond to emergency
situations by initiating emergency procedures and documenting proper records of emergency care provided.
OTHER:Perform other
duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in
Nursing and experience in the care of geriatric patients in a long-term care environment. Current, active licensure in good standing to
practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS
certification
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in exercising leadership skills.
Ability to assume charge nurse
position in an assigned unit.
Ability to supervise others and maintain an empathetic understanding of the physically and mentally
challenged patient.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office
and other computer software/databases
Knowledge of AU/GWVNH policies and procedures
Considerable knowledge of principles and
practices of nursing as it applies to the geriatric population
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and
verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented with strong organizational, customer service, and multi-tasking
skills
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to access and accurately report changes
in patients’ condition
Certifications/License
Must possess a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
BLS/BCLS certification and active Georgia licensure as a Registered Nurse.

All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta
University.
In conjunction with an offer of employment, selected candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete Augusta
University’s Criminal Background Check process. In addition, candidates selected for any position within Georgia War Veteran’s Nursing Home
(GWVNH) will be required to successfully complete the Georgia Long-term Care (GCHEXS) Background Check process. For specific positions,
selected candidate(s) may also be required to successfully complete supplementary pre-employment onboarding requirements such as: a
physical, drug screening and/or credit check.
If applicable for the specific position based on the duties: the candidate will also
need to have a credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
Motor vehicle reports
are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be
required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those
candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to provide an educational/credential evaluation.
