Curry Health Center invites applications for a Patient Support Specialist to serve as a welcoming, knowledgeable first point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and community members who use our medical services.
Curry Health Center supports the health and well-being of the University of Montana student body. Its team works at the intersection of health care, student success, and public service. This position will help students access care, understand next steps, and feel respected during moments that may be stressful, private, or unfamiliar.
Curry Health Center (CHC) strongly encourages all employees to be current with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations on immunizations for Health Care Worker (HCW). This will ensure a safe work environment for our employees as well as our patients. The employees who have not been vaccinated will not be able to work if an outbreak occurs.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and visitors, answer questions, and help create a respectful and supportive front-office environment
- Schedule appointments, process patient information, and support patient flow through the medical office
- Manage reception windows and respond to incoming telephone calls, routing patients and callers to the appropriate staff or service
- Place and release health holds in institutional systems for incoming students, following established procedures and timelines
- Use electronic systems, Office 365, Microsoft applications, and common office equipment to complete daily administrative work accurately
- Handle confidential patient information in accordance with State, Federal, and HIPAA requirements
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with students, faculty, staff, members of the public, and people from diverse cultures and life experiences
- Work collaboratively with medical, counseling, dental, pharmacy, wellness, and administrative colleagues across Curry Health Center
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma and one (1) year of working in a medical reception area or equivalent combination of experience and preparation
- Some knowledge of medical terminology and willingness to continue learning health-care language, workflows, and systems
- Exceptional customer service skills, including patience, tact, and the ability to respond professionally in busy or sensitive situations
- Highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Office 365 and the Microsoft Suite
- Working knowledge of common office equipment and the ability to complete accurate, detail-oriented administrative work
- Ability and willingness to interact effectively and compassionately with students, faculty, staff, the public, and people of diverse cultures
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed coursework or training in medical terminology
- Training or continuing education in customer service, patient service, communication, or a related area
- Experience using electronic health records or similar confidential records systems

Compensation Title: Administrative Associate III
Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
