Position Summary:

Provide support in the technological aspects of animal and human imaging. Support clinical and research scanning of animals. This includes overseeing advanced imaging equipment function, QA/QC, and scanning. Some responsibility for scheduling procedures in order to avoid conflicts with clinical patients and to keep various clinicians, radiologists and researchers informed of the imaging schedule. Perform advanced imaging exams ordered by clinicians on veterinary patients. The Technologist also has an important role in educating faculty, staff, and students in the proper and safe use of the MRI and CT/PET equipment, radiation safety, magnet safety, in conducting CT and/or PET-CT and nuclear medicine studies.

Work Unit Description:

The Veterinary Health System Hospitals exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community every day. This work unit exists to provide administration and direction of the hospital and provide a support facility for service to the general public and referring veterinarians.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Collaborates on decision-making for new and/or additional imaging sequences, hardware and software development, and studies.
  • Analyzes CT, PET-CT, and MRI images with viewing and analytical software.
  • Decision-making regarding the scheduling of research studies and clinical cases, ensuring sufficient availability of the service for clinical cases.
  • Decision-making regarding maintenance and support of all imaging equipment
  • Is able to adjust and optimize multiple technical factors that influence the quality of images eg. kVp, mAs, image matrix for CT; TE, TR, coil type, NEX for MR; isotope type
  • Respond to changes in the physiologic status of the patient and be able to adjust image acquisition accordingly e.g. changes in heart rate or renal status relative to administration of IV contrast in CT
  • Responsible for and manages all safety practices and safety policies in the advanced imaging suites.

Supervision:

Limited supervisory responsibilities of personnel who will be entering into the MRI suite and radiation safety in CT.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in radiologic technology
  • OR High school diploma plus six years of advanced imaging experience.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in health, life science, or related field plus two years of advanced imaging experience
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (MR) certification and/or (CT) with a member in good standing status
  • Good computer skills and familiarity with networking, PC-based database and spreadsheet programs, word processing, and image viewing software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional post-primary ARRT certification in CT, MRI or nuclear medicine and/or PET/CT is highly desired.
  • Previous experience with MRI, multi-slice CT, PET/CT, and/or nuclear medicine
  • Previous experience in veterinary medical setting Project management experience
  • Experience working in digital imaging, RIS/PACS environment, large group PC-based presentation skills
  • Demonstrated history of working well in a team environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills working with personnel at all levels in a hospital setting (faculty, administration, staff, clinicians, and trainees)
  • Experience with radiopharmaceutical handling, patient injections, radiation safety protocols, and monitoring
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are highly desired

Salary Range
$50/hour
