Our mission in the Department of Juvenile
Justice Health Services is to transform young lives by providing evidence-based rehabilitative treatment services and supervision,
strengthening the well-being of youth and families, and fostering safe communities.
Each youth will receive appropriate,
individualized care to improve their health knowledge and their potential for wellness.
Responsibilities
Duties to
include but are not limited to:
Under the general direction of the Lead Nurse – responsible for the delivery of patient care through
the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Guides patient teaching, nursing activities, and ancillary
personnel. Also responsible for promoting a customer-friendly environment and providing superior service to our youth, facility staff,
family, and outside vendors.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed as an RN in the State of Georgia.
- 1 year of
previous experience in a clinical setting. - Good organizational and decision-making skills; good physical and mental health; able to
work under pressure; must relate well to patients, security staff, visitors, and co-workers. - Functions within the Georgia Board of
Nursing Nurse Practice Act. - Must have current Health Care Provider BCLS Certification, obtained through American Heart or Red Cross
Program. - Must be able to lift 50lbs. Normal bending, reaching, stooping. Standing and sitting for long periods of time. Must be
able to move quickly in cases of emergency (within 4 minutes). Normal levels of hearing and seeing, if necessary, with corrective
appliances. Must be able to perform BCLS. - Security Clearance by the Georgia Department of Juvenile
Justice

Responsibilities
Administrative Duties – 50
‘
Adheres to all security regulations and reports any security concerns to the GCHC-JH Lead Nurse.
‘ Maintains a good working
relationship with and responds appropriately to correctional and health care staff, contract providers, and with outside agencies conducting
services within the facility.
‘ Utilizes established departmental policies and procedures in making decisions; uses sound
independent judgment in meeting responsibilities and performing duties.
‘ Adheres to HIPAA Regulations and maintains all patient
confidentiality as required by law and GCHC Policy.
‘ Works as scheduled and adheres to GCHC-JH policies for leave, timekeeping and
call-ins.
‘ Maintains a professional attitude and dress at all times in accordance with the Department of Correctional Healthcare
and DJJ dress code policy.
‘ Does not fraternize with youths beyond professional contact.
Clinical – 50
‘
Performs within the normal limits of State Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Nurses policies and procedures, the Department of Correctional
Healthcare facility policies / procedures, and standards.
‘ Administers prescribed medications, and notes times and amounts on
clients’ charts
‘ Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is
maintained
‘ Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity
‘ Modifies client treatment plans as
indicated by clients’ responses and conditions
‘ Conducts referral process to appropriate providers and functions as required by
policy.
‘ Addresses patient care complaints ensuring quality of care
‘ Implements proper techniques/procedures in accordance
with DJJ/GCHC-JH approved nursing procedure manual/designated protocols and available resources.
‘ Must maintain current Healthcare
BCLS and be proficient in recognizing the need to implement/ use of the AED (defibrillator).
‘ Provides other services and performs
other duties as assigned.
