Assistant Director for Athletic Facilities, Event Operations & Game Day Experience


General Summary:

The Assistant Director for Athletic Facilities, Event Operations, and Game Day Experience
reports to the Associate AD for

Facilities, Operations, and Sport Administration and plays a vital role in creating exceptional
athletic environments and

memorable experiences. This position provides comprehensive leadership and operational oversight across
athletic

facilities, game-day execution, and event staffing for all varsity sports.

Serving as a central coordinator for both
on-campus and off-site competitions, this role ensures that every event is

executed with excellence, professionalism, and meticulous
attention to detail. Through a commitment to safety,

efficiency, and innovation, the position elevates the student-athlete and fan
experience while upholding institutional

standards, conference expectations, and NCAA regulations.

As the athletics program
continues to grow—expanding sport sponsorship, home events, postseason hosting, and off-

site venue usage—this role is essential to
maintaining operational excellence, managing risk, strategically supporting

revenue-generating initiatives, and enhancing the overall
experience for student-athletes, staff, and spectators alike.

Examples of Duties:

Athletic Facilities &
Event Operations

  • Assist with setup, breakdown, and readiness for practices, competitions, and special events
  • Ensure
    all facilities meet NCAA, conference, institutional, and safety standards
  • Coordinate field, court, rink, and ancillary equipment
    needs
  • Support emergency planning and real-time issue resolution during events

Off-Site Venue & Game Support

  • Manage logistics for off-site competitions and home events
  • Serve as primary liaison with municipal partners and
    third-party venues
  • Oversee transportation of equipment and supplies to off-site locations
  • Act as on-site operations
    representative to ensure smooth execution of events

Game-Day Staffing & Scheduling

  • Recruit, manage, schedule, and
    supervise game-day staff, including part-time employees and student workers
  • Build a Game Day Guide and leadership program that
    trains, motivates, and unites game-day teams for

exceptional athletic experiences

  • Coordinate staffing for
    simultaneous or high-volume events
  • Manage communications and coverage adjustments for game-day teams
  • Assist with
    visiting team logistics, including locker room coordination and welcome communications
  • Schedule officials and manage arrival
    coordination

Elevating Game-Day Experience & Fan Engagement

  • Lead in-game marketing and fan engagement initiatives
    in partnership with the Communications team as a way

to elevate the game-day experience.

  • Spearhead key game-day
    experience projects, such as, but not limited to, the rink experience, themed

“appreciation games,” and other signature
events• Develop and implement strategies to increase fan attendance, engagement, and support (track metrics, e.g.,

attendance growth,
social media engagement, fan satisfaction surveys)

  • Deliver a unique and polished game-day environment that strengthens UMass
    Boston’s brand in the Division III

athletics landscape

  • Collaborate with coaches, staff, and external partners to
    align operations with fan engagement and branding

goals

Revenue-Generating Events & Rentals

  • Under the
    vision of the Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation, in coordination with

the campus Administration and Finance Team,
the Deputy AD for Development and

Revenue Generation, the Associate Director of Athletics for Recreation & Finance, and under the
direction of

the Associate AD for Facilities, Operations, and Sport Administration, develop a revenue plan for maximizing

opportunities to rent athletic space in a way that increases revenue on a yearly basis, directly supporting the

budget for
Athletics and Recreation with a targeted yearly goal.

  • Create a yearly planning model for revenue generation that includes
    post-year evaluation to continue to

maximize revenue generation.

  • Support planning and execution of
    revenue-generating rentals, clinics, and external events
  • Ensure high-quality facility setup, staffing, and client experiences
  • Coordinate with internal colleagues to ensure community engagement program remains a priority while

maximizing
revenue opportunities.

Program Growth & Operational Support

  • Assist with long-term planning for facility usage, staffing
    models, and event operations
  • Streamline workflows and consolidate responsibilities to improve efficiency across the department
  • Support strategic initiatives to enhance recruitment, stakeholder engagement, and fan loyalty

Optional Coaching
Component

This position may include assistant coaching responsibilities, providing additional compensatory pay following the

collective bargaining unit requirements. Coaching duties would be clearly defined and aligned with NCAA and

conference
guidelines.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-3 years of
    experience in event operations, facilities management, or game-day administration
  • Strong organizational, communication, and
    problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment
  • Availability
    to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • Experience managing off-site athletic venues and municipal partnerships
  • Knowledge of NCAA athletics operations

  • Supervisory experience with part-time staff or student employees
  • Experience in marketing, fan engagement, or revenue-generating
    athletic events
