August 2, 2026. Position could begin sooner depending on the availability of the selected candidate.
The
Opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Director of the VCUarts Performing Arts Group, the Box Office Manager is responsible
for overall box office management including the effective delivery of daily ticketing operations, patron database and records management,
online sales, customer service, and supervision of other part-time positions. The Box Office Manager partners with Chairs, faculty, and
staff in the departments of VCUarts Theater, Music, and Dance and Choreography to coordinate the front-line role of the box office in
facilitating approximately 70 performances and special events per year. Events could include the use of VCUarts performing arts spaces by
other university programs or school offices. VCUarts performance venues include the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, Grace
Street Theater, W. Black Music Center, Shafer Street Playhouse, as well as other locations on- and off-campus.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service skills and respond promptly to patron inquiries
and requests from performing arts departments - Ensure the timely and accurate processing of ticketing transactions in Etix
software - Oversee data management in the Etix system, including accurate posting and maintenance of scheduled events
- Collaborate with departments to plan and implement strategies to bolster sales, enhance service, and promote VCUarts performances
- Maintain and monitor box office website to ensure content is current and up-to-date
- Manage front of house, maintain box office
schedule, and open the box office on day of performance - Coordinate the recruitment, training, scheduling, and timekeeping of
ushers, box office associates, and work study students to cover events across multiple venues - Create and maintain employee training
documentation for ticketing transactions and customer service - Foster and maintain a welcoming, inclusive, safe, and accessible
environment for patrons and box office employees - Keep accurate patron records as well as records of daily/weekly sales including a
summary of performance totals and number of patrons who attended the shows - Produce regular reports that inform departmental
leadership of weekly sales (each Monday); performance sales (after each performance closes); show sales (after all performances of the
production close); and annual sales (once at the end of the season) - Provide department leadership with an assessment of trends,
customer information and feedback, and suggestions on how to improve performance facilitation through bi-monthly meetings - Coordinate scheduling of VCUarts facilities as needed

- The W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts, contains a 500-seat concert hall, as well as a 257-seat
theater and showcases music performances and theater productions throughout the year - The Grace Street Theater is a 225-seat theater
and is the primary performing venue for the Department of Dance and Choreography, but also frequently shows films - The James W.
Black Music Center hosts many student recitals and ensemble performances in its 330-seat recital hall, which is a renovated former
church - The Shafer Street Playhouse is home to the student-run Shafer Alliance Laboratory Theatre. This building contains rehearsal
space and a 150-seat theater.
Work Expectations:
- This is a part-time, temporary, non-exempt
position. Health care, life insurance, retirement, and/or leave benefits are not provided with this position - The Box Office Manager
will work on average 29 hours per week. In order to comply with applicable federal and state laws and policies, part-time, non-benefited
employees are not permitted to work more than twenty-nine (29) hours per week on average - The Box Office Manager must be flexible to
meet the needs of performance schedules, working a flexible schedule that includes days, nights, and weekend hours.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and
training. - Exceptional customer service skills and appropriate experience in a customer service forward field is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze data and communicate
trends - Drive to take initiative, be proactive, and make recommendations for process improvement
- Experience with Etix or
another ticketing software is preferred - Knowledge of credit card security, cash handling procedures, and general transactional
compliance - Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a
population of faculty, staff, and students from various background checks and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at
VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the arts or an arts related field is preferred
- Two
or more years of experience in a box office setting and/or in an arts organization is preferred - Familiarity with VCUarts and its
performance programming is preferred

Salary Range: $20-$23/hour
