About this position
The Gift Shop Clerk is responsible for greeting visitors, answering phone and e-mail inquiries, and taking reservations for campus tours as well as conducting tours of the Usonian Faculty House. Also performs routine manual and varied clerical work of a general gift shop nature including the processing of sales, merchandise and new inventory items.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Greet visitors and answer their questions pertaining to tour descriptions, times and costs.
- Answer incoming phone calls and emails from visitors explaining tour schedules, pricing, parking etc.
- Book reservations for the various tours offered.
- Process sales of tours and merchandise on the POS cash register system.
- Conduct tours of the Usonian Faculty House.
- Assist in verifying incoming inventory for the quantity received, labeling and storage.
- Make sure all display areas are neat, orderly and that the items displayed attractively.
- Be knowledgeable of College and department policies and use discretion in providing information keeping the confidentially of both visitor and college information in mind.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Visitors Center by performing other duties as assigned by the Director of the Visitors Center.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills in working with the public is essential.
- Two years successful experience in stores keeping or related work is required, preferably in a retail environment.
- Cash handling experience is required.
- Ability to operate a calculator, adding machine, and cash register is required.
- Computer literacy and familiarity with computerized inventory systems and bar codes is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequently lifts, transports, unloads, unpacks, and moves large and heavy cartons of merchandise on a daily basis; items moved can weigh more than fifty pounds.
- Performs daily tasks requiring mobility, coordination and endurance.
- The nature of this position requires long periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis.
