Position Overview

The Assistant Director for Facilities and
Operations oversees campus facilities staff and contracted services during off-hour periods, ensuring buildings and grounds remain safe,
clean, and fully operational. This role coordinates emergency facilities response – particularly in residence halls -monitors work orders
and inspections, and supports daily operational needs.

The position also assists with staff supervision, payroll and attendance
review, project and contract tracking, preventive maintenance planning, and event support, including scheduling operational coverage as
needed.

Primary Purpose

To manage and provide oversight to all facility and operation functions including
housekeeping that occur outside of the normal first shift operation.

Essential Duties

  • Provide oversight and
    supervision to all facilities and operations personnel as well as contractors (i.e., housekeeping, grounds, maintenance, etc.) during off
    hour periods based on priorities established by the Associate Director of Custodial Services.
  • Assist in establishing and
    maintaining good working relationships with superiors, subordinates and the general campus community.
  • Facilitate when necessary,
    and provide the necessary resources to complete assigned tasks.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight to off-hour emergency issues
    involving facilities and operations especially related to the residence halls.
  • Complete daily inspection reports relating to the
    completion of work orders, tasks, and especially building housekeeping.
  • Review time sheets, payrolls, and employee attendance for
    personnel and conduct the necessary performance evaluations for those directly supervised.
  • Assist the Director in tracking all
    related projects, contract services, and procurement to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Assist in the development and
    implementation of plans for the routine identification and correction of maintenance deficiencies on campus.
  • Assist and supervise
    the implementation of a regular schedule for the replacement and maintenance of building components and finishes (i.e., painting, ceiling
    tiles, light bulbs, etc.).
  • Attend ongoing educational sessions and conduct professional development sessions for campus staff
    especially in the areas of blood borne pathogen management, chemical management, waste management, etc.
  • Utilize event management
    system, track events and facility usage. Schedule overtime as needed for housekeepers.

Occasional Duties

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director of Custodial Services or the Director of Facilities and
    Operations.
  • May be involved, as necessary, in the management of snow emergency/removal.
  • Order and maintain an adequate
    supply of custodial materials.
  • Manage and evaluate all off-hour operation functions and activities (i.e., building cleanliness,
    work order completion, contractors, etc.).
  • May involve weekend work as required.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and
Abilities

  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Competency with current business and trade
    technologies.
  • Ability to physically negotiate the campus buildings under all environmental conditions.
  • Technological
    skills with facilities-related software and computers.

  • Good understanding of current cleaning technology.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive managerial experience in the area of facilities and operations or
    maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a unionized setting.
  • Bilingual
    (Spanish).

Environmental
Conditions

May be exposed to the following: any number of chemicals in the form of liquids or vapor, i.e. cleaning supplies;
adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, extreme heat or cold; unsanitary conditions such as dirt, refuse, etc. Position requires
24-hour callback in cases of emergency.

Salary Grade: 12NC

Work Schedule

35
hours/week.
4:00PM to 12:00AM.
May require weekend work, as needed.
On occasion, in the absence of a supervisor to sign staff out,
employees may be released at 12:30AM. In such instances, a half hour of compensatory time will be granted.
