Location: Raleigh, NC

Essential Job Duties:
Are you a culinary pro with a knack for leadership? We are seeking a motivated Lead Food Service Technician to help anchor our high-volume retail food operations at Talley Pavilion. Working under the guidance of the unit supervisor, you will be the “boots on the ground” leader, overseeing a varied team of student and temporary employees. Your mission is to ensure every shift runs like clockwork, every recipe is executed to perfection, and every guest leaves satisfied.

The essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee daily unit operations, ensuring smooth workflow and maintaining brand standards.
  • Train, mentor, and lead student/temporary staff; assign daily tasks and ensure all dining services guidelines are followed.
  • Maintain a culture of safety. Ensure strict adherence to food safety protocols, allergen training guidelines, and the proper handling of kitchen equipment (knives, slicers, fryers, etc.).
  • Provide “gold-standard” service, remaining professional and respectful under the pressure of a fast-paced environment.
  • Utilize computers and email to manage schedules or learn new software programs as required by the department.

Due to the fast-paced nature of a retail food court, this position requires:

  • Frequent bending, twisting, pulling, and pushing.

  • Comfort working in extremely hot and cold conditions (kitchen lines, walk-in coolers/freezers) within a fast-paced environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity to grow your leadership skills within a dynamic University environment. We value excellence, safety, and a positive team culture. If you are a reliable problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced retail food service, we want to hear from you!

Other Work/Responsibilities:

  • Model the Division’s mission and values, introduce the Division’s mission and values to the employees, and foster a positive, cohesive workplace and congeniality among co-workers.
  • Understand the goals and culture of the organization, and understand how employees’ work activities, teamwork, and customer service impact clients. Work with your supervisor and colleagues to understand these goals and the culture.
  • Adhere to all University policies, procedures, and regulations, and Division standard operating practices and protocols.
  • Due to operational needs of the NC State Dining department, an employee may be assigned to work in any NC State Dining department including, but not limited to special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure NC State Dining business needs are met.

  • Allergen training.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety protocols.

Required license or certification:
