Essential Job Duties:
Are you a master of the dish machine with a knack for leadership? NC State Dining is looking for a Head Dishwasher to join our team at Fountain Dining Hall! This isn’t just about sparkling plates; it’s about leading a crew, maintaining high-standards, and ensuring our dining hall runs like a well-oiled (and very clean) machine.
As a Head Dishwasher, you are the backbone of our kitchen operations. You won’t just be managing the workflow; you’ll be mentoring student staff and temporary employees to ensure the Wolfpack is fed and our facility remains pristine.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operate and maintain commercial dish machine.
- Supervise and assign tasks and direct the efforts of temporary staff and student employees to hit operational goals.
- Guide new team members on specific job assignments and the proper, safe operation of industrial dishwashing equipment.
- Maintain high cleanliness standards across the kitchen, dining, storage, and disposal areas (including sweeping, mopping, and window/door cleaning).
- Proactively recognize and resolve service hurdles before they impact our guests.
- Assist with stocking beverages/food items and review staff schedules/timekeeping to ensure we’re always at full strength.
- Check tables, chairs, and equipment to ensure everything is in good repair and safe for our guests.
Your ability to follow instructions, manage time effectively, and communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors will be key to your success. This role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 60 pounds, work in hot and cold conditions, and safely handle sharp tools and hot surfaces (all with or without reasonable accommodations).

- Due to operational needs of the NC State Dining department, an employee may be assigned to work in any NC State Dining department including, but not limited to, catering and special events.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure NC State Dining business needs are met.
Minimum Experience/Education:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Some positions may require certification by the Department of Correction.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a commercial dishwasher in a high volume kitchen.
- Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation processes.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols; incumbent will routinely handle sharp items such as knives and slicer blades as well as be around hot food items, food pans, ovens, fryers, steam tables, grills, etc.
- Ability to provide outstanding customer service, including the ability to remain professional and respectful under pressure when dealing with difficult situations, to team and customers.
- Ability to use or learn to use email.
