Seeking highly motivated and responsible Genetic
Counseling Assistant (GCA) to work with our genetic counseling team to provide support in Huntsman Cancer
Institute’s dynamic clinical environment within the Family Cancer Assessment Clinic (FCAC).

Responsibilities
The Genetic Counseling Assistant’s responsibilities include:
- Effectively supporting the
internal clinical workflow of the FCAC team. - Facilitating initial and follow-up consultations with genetic counselors.
- Interviewing patients and documenting their personal and family medical history in preparation for appointments.
- Ordering
genetic testing and coordinating patient samples. - Acting as the liaison between various clinical labs, departments and insurance
companies. - Database entry and assistance with various research projects.
- Creation and maintenance of electronic genetic
counseling documentation templates. - Other patient preparation and follow-up tasks to support the genetic counseling
team.
The Genetic Counseling Assistant may also have opportunities to participate in additional community outreach and educational
opportunities. This position mainly focuses on supporting the oncology genetic counselors, but some time will be spent with the cardiology
and neurology genetic counselors.
Problem Solving Incumbents in this position are expected to be familiar with the
department’s policies and procedures and have a working knowledge of University and department organizations and procedures in order to
answer and assist staff and visitors. Incumbents are also expected to demonstrate sensitivity to others’ needs while being understanding and
helpful on the job.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency
typically required Hybrid position with 3-4 days per week remote and 1-2 days per week in the office at Huntsman Cancer
Institute.

Minimum
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of
related work experience), plus two years of related experience required; ability to use logic and reasoning to prioritize tasks; computer
skills including word processing, spreadsheet software, and/or database software preferred; demonstrated human relation and effective
communication skills also required.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field may be preferred.
This position is patient-sensitive
and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees

Preferences
- Bachelor’s degree in Social or Behavioral Science,
Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency. - Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively over the
telephone and in person. - Ability to work sensitively and effectively with
- patients.
- Excellent organizational
skills. - Ability to work well both independently, with minimal supervision, and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with
EPIC and Progeny preferred. Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required.
