Heartburn can range from an occasional annoyance to a painful, ongoing condition, and doctors say new technology is helping determine when it becomes chronic.

Dr. Melissa Magrath, a gastroenterologist with White Plains Hospital, joined News 12 to discuss common causes of heartburn and the best ways to treat it.

She also explained a new high‑tech diagnostic tool now being used at White Plains Hospital that tracks heartburn data.

Doctors say the technology helps determine whether symptoms are isolated or part of a chronic condition.

The diagnostic information is then used to help develop a more effective treatment plan for patients experiencing ongoing heartburn.
