Job Summary

The Department of Campus Dining and Hospitality (CD&H) at the
University of Colorado, Boulder is seeking applications for the Shift Supervisor (Banquet
Captain)!
This is a hands-on position that provides oversight and leadership in the CD&H catering department. This role
assigns and coordinates the activities of fulltime, student, and temporary staff involved in the preparation, set-up, service, and clean up
associated with assigned event or service. The Banquet Captain is accountable for the cleanliness and proper functionality of the following
areas and associated staff: food and beverage preparation and service, dish-washing, banquet and event spaces, storerooms, catering
vehicles, loading dock and all storage areas. They will also input in the development of protocol for service standards and determines break
schedules for all staff based upon organizational needs and staff schedules, all while offering excellent customer service in a
team-oriented and supported environment.

What Your Key
Responsibilities Will Be

Campus Dining and Hospitality Operations:

  • Enforce and is accountable for
    ensuring that assigned area or event is following all SOPs and department policies or processes.
  • Understand and use all production
    and service equipment in assigned area.
  • Assure all CDH events and operational spaces are kept clean and orderly. Follows all storage
    expectations.
  • Assist with ordering and receiving of goods and services as needed.
  • Successfully pass food safety
    certification and other required trainings as applicable.
  • Use various university vehicles (vans, box trucks, golf carts) to
    transport and deliver goods and services to scheduled events.
  • Drive to events located on Main, East, Williams Village or any other
    campus-affiliated space is required, dependent upon business needs.

Quality Assurance:

  • Navigate customer
    complaints and make decisions in the best interest of the operations and its guests.
  • Resolve disputes between staff and others, as
    well as notify appropriate campus resources as needed.
  • Ensure all department processes for food safety monitoring and A9 allergen
    labeling are followed during scheduled shift and determine corrective action when out of compliance, including verifying accurate labeling,
    troubleshooting equipment and staff education.
  • Conduct audits of efficiency and effectiveness to manage and control costs.
  • Offer recommendations and solutions to the leadership team to improve daily operations of functional areas.
  • Assist in
    creation of standardized operating procedures and training methods.
  • Ensure all areas are set up and broken down in accordance with
    Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring that all events or services meet department standards.
  • Comply and enforce sanitation
    regulations and safety protocols.

Personnel:

  • Assist in staff recruitment, training and onboarding processes.
  • Empowers other to make decisions in areas within their span of control.
  • Assigns daily tasks and ensure that they are
    completed efficiently and on time and that assigned areas run smoothly.
  • Ensure employees follow assigned schedule, appropriate
    break times and follow proper procedures of all leave requests.
  • Responsible for performance plans for direct reports and hold
    employees accountable, following progressive coaching processes.
  • Maintain records of shift activities and incidents and assist in
    ensuring accurate timekeeping of staff worked hours.
  • Discuss staff issues with Executive Team and offer solutions on the appropriate
    action.
  • Display, demonstrate, and coach others to develop excellent communication skills.
  • Foster a positive work
    environment.

What You Should Know

  • Anticipated schedule for this position is Tuesday – Saturday. Schedule
    is dependent upon business needs. May work weekends and nights. May work in locations located off of main campus.
  • This position
    operates University vehicles and requires a Driver’s License in good standing.
  • This position requires a CMV license; if you do not
    have a CMV license, training will be provided upon hire.

What We Require

  • Four years of food service experience. Relevant education may substitute for
    experience on a year for year basis.
  • Must obtain food safety certification appropriate for the position level within 6 months of
    hire and maintain certification for the duration of employment with CDH.
  • Possess and maintain a valid and appropriate state Driver’s
    License. Successful completion of the University of Colorado defensive driving training within 90 days of employment to operate vehicles
    essential to the position.

  • Experience in
    high-volume university or institutional food service operations including catering, residential and retail.
