Basic Function and Responsibility:
The Department of Internal Medicine at University of Iowa Health Care is seeking 100% time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to perform direct patient care within the Infusion Suite of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and services provided and function as an Advanced Practice Nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of Nurse Practitioner and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher, and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes for HCCC and Infusion Suite patients.
This role will only assume duties and responsibilities within their scope of practice and for while they have acquired and maintained necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities and only after appropriate education and demonstrated clinical competency. This position reports to the Medical Director within the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assure clinical competency and expertise in areas of specialization.
- Function independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for Infusion Suite and HCCC patients.
- Provide outpatient clinical care and same-day appointments as directed
- Assess and treat patients experiencing reactions to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products.
- Order medications, administer drugs, and treat patients during infusion services.
- Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff, along with administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
- Determine clinical care requirements of care, with regard to patient condition and age, and follow universal precautions.
- Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
- Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
- Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
- Act as a liaison between the Infusion Suite and other prescribers, while also working directly with patients.
- Support daily operations of the Infusion Suite and help develop processes to improve workflow and patient experiences.
- Create and oversee patient care plans in collaboration with the prescriber and the patient’s physician in order to provide the best treatment possible.
- Participate in the development, utilization, and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
- Provide education and serve as a resource for nursing staff in area of clinical expertise.
- Generate research questions regarding health care for particular patient populations.
- Participate in development and implementation of departmental quality assessment/improvement programs and processes
- Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
- Contribute toward the achievement of organizational goals
- Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and knowledge.
- Participate in professional activities in the department, hospital, community, and professional organizations.
- Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public

Supervision Received
Supervision is received from Medical Director of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Supervision Exercised
Functional supervision is exercise over support staff.

Required Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree is required. A Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. If Master’s degree is in a related field, a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required.
- Must have current license to practice nursing in the state of Iowa and licensure as an ARNP in Iowa or eligible for licensure; current license to practice in Iowa is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Current certification in a specialty area
- Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Some knowledge of University policies and procedures desired.
- Demonstrated experience in Hematology and Oncology or Infusions
