Summary:

The Catering Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Food Services and works as a
m
ember of the LSUS Food Services team. Oversees high-quality catering operations for university events by coordinating catering
staff, ensuring event success, and maintaining exceptional service standards. Serves as an unofficial/informal leader and is a resource and
mentor to student workers in a fast paced, service driven setting. Is detail oriented, maintains accurate records and possesses a passion
for hospitality. This summary is not intended to be a comprehensive, or all-inclusive description, of duties and responsibilities. The
Catering Specialist is a full-time, unclassified, nonexempt 12-month position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a related field LSUS values skills, experience and expertise.
    Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply – a degree is not required if the candidate
    meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.
  • 2 years’ catering, restaurant, or food service
    experience with medium to large group sizes
  • Serve Safe certification (can be obtained within 6 months).
  • Hands-on experience
    in food preparation, to include cooking, baking, and preparing ready-made food items.
  • Culinary experience preferred; familiarity
    with food prep and presentation techniques is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build
    rapport with individuals at all levels
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
  • Duties:
  • Preparing food items, set up, and serve food at various events, banquets, and functions
    with attention to presentation and quality.
  • Assist with food preparation, placing food items in correct vessels, and garnishing
    to meet event specifications.
  • Excellent food handling and preparation skills of food products in compliance with health and
    sanitation regulations, ensuring proper storage and transportation.
  • Maintain proper food storage practices and assist with
    inventory management.
  • Ability to continuously work while standing, walking, pushing, and/or carrying for the duration of a shift.
  • Fulfill the guests’ needs quickly and efficiently as well as resolve complaints effectively.
  • Execute back of the
    house, front of the house and all other duties assigned for the overall productivity of banquet events assigned.
  • Strong knowledge of
    culinary arts and health sanitation.
  • Maintain a friendly and approachable attitude towards the client, guests, and
    staff.
  • Communicate clearly and openly with leaders for overall success.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and mannerism
    and provide prompt and courteous service to all customers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

  • Organize, set up and deliver the requested catering services to the specific requested location or conference room.
  • Provides
    assistance and reports to the Assistant Food Service Director of Catering
  • Dependable and shows for scheduled shift on time
  • Must be able to set-up and break-down buffets, dining tables, and VIP room locations.
  • Remains flexible in a fast-paced
    environment and manages multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the LSUS Food Services leadership team.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25
pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or
condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even
though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a
significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3)
when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of
those materials is negligible.
