Position Summary
The Collegiate Retail Store Manager oversees all aspects of campus retail operations, including
merchandise planning, staff supervision, customer experience, and financial performance. This role ensures the store meets the needs of
students, faculty, alumni, and visitors while aligning with institutional goals and brand standards.
Key
Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Direct daily store operations, including
opening/closing, merchandising, and inventory control - Ensure compliance with university policies and retail standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment
Sales & Financial Performance
- Drive sales growth through promotions, product placement, and seasonal campaigns (e.g., back-to-school, graduation)
- Monitor budgets, expenses, and profit margins
- Analyze sales data and adjust strategies to meet revenue goals
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise full-time and student employees
- Create schedules that align with peak campus traffic
- Conduct performance evaluations and foster a positive team culture
Merchandising & Inventory
- Manage product assortment including textbooks, apparel, supplies,
and branded merchandise - Coordinate with vendors and licensing partners for collegiate branding
- Oversee inventory levels,
ordering, and loss prevention strategies
Customer Experience
- Deliver excellent customer
service to a diverse campus population - Address customer concerns and resolve issues promptly
- Build relationships with
students, faculty, and campus departments
Campus & Vendor Relations
- Collaborate with
university departments on events, programs, and promotions - Manage relationships with suppliers and licensed merchandise
vendors - Ensure compliance with trademark and licensing requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, or related field (preferred)
- 3-5+ years of retail management experience
(college retail experience a plus) - Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience with POS
systems, inventory management, and financial reporting - Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and peak
academic periods
