Job Duties:

Dining operates a comprehensive collegiate food service program delivering high-quality, contemporary, and innovative culinary services to meet the various needs of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position ensures that dining standards are attained so that customers have an enjoyable dining experience in any of our locations. Standards that this position will display and uphold are courteous service, proper sanitation procedures, proper use and care of equipment, and the efficient production of quality, wholesome, and properly prepared foods according to standardized menus and recipes.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Trains and guides student workers

Department:

This position reports for culinary duties through the Chefs and Sous Chefs to the Executive Chef of University Dining and for personnel/operational duties to the Unit Manager. The University Dining Department has service units located within the DeBot Residential Dining Center (Upper DeBot Dining Center and Lower DeBot Marketplace), the Dreyfus University Center, and the Chemistry/Biology Building on the main UW-Stevens Point campus and operates a full-service catering operation and food truck operation in the larger community. University Dining is a department within the Student Affairs division and is closely linked with the University Centers and Housing and Residence Life.

Compensation:

The Cook is a full-time position during the academic year/part time in summer, hourly, non-exempt, annual (12-month), university staff position.

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $16 – $18 per hour commensurate with the candidate’s education, related experience, and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 200# and the ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50# when storing, stocking, and rotating food products. A pre-employment physical assessment is required prior to work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe and efficient use of food service equipment, and the procedures to clean food service equipment (ovens, choppers, slicers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of food production methods and procedures including sanitation, weights, and measures.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation and health precautions in food preparation and service.
  • AllerTrain and ServSafe Certification will be offered and required within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of related experience.
  • High school diploma/GED.
