Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans invites applications and nominations for the position of
Head of the Department of Psychiatry. This position oversees the faculty, staff, and residents in the Department of Psychiatry and advances
the educational, clinical, and research missions of the Department of Psychiatry and the School of Medicine. The department head will report
directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine and work closely with the leadership of University Medical Center-New Orleans, Children’s
Hospital New Orleans, community clinics, and other locations where the department faculty provide clinical services. Incumbent will also
work with other clinical and basic science department heads and have the opportunity to work with directors of our multidisciplinary centers
of excellence: the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center, Neuroscience Center, Cancer Center, and Cardiovascular Center. The successful applicant
must have strong leadership and communication skills, demonstrate a commitment to education and biomedical research, and provide a vision of
excellence for the Department. A record of achievements in clinical service, teaching, multi-disciplinary collaborative research,
administration, and faculty mentorship is essential. The successful candidate will also work with the departmental staff and dean’s office
administration, the faculty group practice (LSU HealthCare Network) personnel, and the staff and administration of various hospital and
clinic entities to maintain and expand the department’s clinical activities.
