Job Description

The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for the leadership, management, and performance of all clinical operations within the Dental School. This position focuses exclusively on patient care delivery, clinic workflow efficiency, regulatory compliance, and operational support of the clinical education program. The Director ensures that clinic operations support student learning, faculty supervision, and high-quality patient care while maintaining financial sustainability within the clinical enterprise

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field (Masters preferred). 5-8 years of progressive healthcare or dental clinic management experience. Strong understanding of dental clinic operations and revenue cycle management. Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an academic dental school setting. Familiarity with dental practice management systems and EHR platforms. Experience managing multi-specialty or high-volume clinics.

Job Duties

  • Oversee daily operations of predoctoral and specialty dental clinics
  • Ensure efficient patient scheduling, chair utilization, and provider productivity
  • Monitor clinic performance metrics, including patient volume, treatment completion, and revenue
  • Implement policies and procedures to optimize workflow and service delivery
  • Maintain operational readiness of clinic spaces
  • Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure students meet clinical competency requirements.
  • Support faculty in delivering high-quality clinical instruction.
  • Assist in clinic calibration, standardization, and evaluation processes
  • Balance educational mission with operational performance goals
  • Monitor clinical revenue cycle performance, including billing, collections, and insurance processing
  • Work with finance teams on clinic budget management and forecasting
  • Identify opportunities to improve clinic efficiency and financial sustainability
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) and productivity benchmarks
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control standards, and state dental regulations.
  • Support accreditation processes (e.g., CODA).
  • Oversee quality assurance and patient safety initiatives.
  • Address clinical incident reporting and risk mitigation
  • Supervise clinic managers, front desk teams, and clinical support staff.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, service excellence, and professionalism
  • Establish and maintain high standards for patient care and service
  • Address escalated patient concerns
  • Monitor patient satisfaction metrics
  • Other Duties as assigned
