Job Summary
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is responsible for assisting and collaborating in the delivery of nursing care consistent with the multidisciplinary recovery plan for individualized client needs. Participate in gathering assessment data and jointly planning patient care within the scope of practice of an LVN. Provide care to meet the physical and emotional needs of the patient, carrying out the physician’s orders in a manner that ensures quality and patient safety.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Observe, assess, plan, intervene and evaluate outcome and document all aspects of patient care to assist in providing quality services.
- Follow established nursing standards and protocols for treatment and care.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining an environment that is therapeutic.
- Execute physician’s orders for assigned patients, administer medication, treatments and deliver population specific competent nursing care.
- Respect and supports patient rights and obtain consents as appropriate.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provided emergency medical and first when necessary.
- Provide education and instruction to patients regarding their health conditions, medication, and treatment options.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and treatments.
- Perform and report Point of Care testing.
- Communicate pertinent information to, and coordinate with medical and mental health providers, security and other staff while maintaining confidentiality of patient information per policy and HIPAA law.
- Conduct inventory, count, and documentation of medications and controlled substances in accordance with policy. Assist in ordering medications, utilizing cost-effective measures.
- Coordinate with the medical team to ensure that appropriate healthcare services are provided.
- Support the mission and vision of the facility.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience Preferred Education/ExperienceRequired Certifications/Licenses
- Possess and maintain current TX LVN license to practice.
- Possess and maintain BLS certification.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
