This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the Pioneer Shop and supporting store operations in the manager’s absence. Responsibilities will include merchandising, operating the cash register, shelving and restocking, inventory management, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Open and close the store independently
- Greet customers and assist with questions and merchandise purchases
- Accurately perform cashier duties including handling cash, checks and credit card transactions and internal department purchases
- Shelve, arrange, clean, and organize merchandise to maintain an appealing sales floor
- Assist with merchandise inventory and product processing
- Support textbook and course material rental process; assist with questions and course material delivery to students as needed
- Support Manager with financial and inventory reporting, as requested
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of department and/or division needs and goals.
- Serve as a backup to other staff members in their absence
- Provide supervisory support to student employees in absence of Manager
Qualifications:
Education and /or Experience:
- High School degree or GED
- 1+ year experience in retail preferred
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail required
Technology Skills:
- Thorough knowledge and use of MS Office applications required
- Ability to use and maintain voice mail and e-mail required
Human Relations Skills:
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills both in writing and in person
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Ability to work with diverse constituencies
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with other University departments and constituents
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time
- Sufficient strength, physical dexterity, and ability to perform duties and responsibilities of position
Other Requirements
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and insurable under the University’s insurance plan
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required
- Must be flexible in schedule and work well under pressure
