College/Department Information

Located conveniently in Augusta’s downtown medical community, Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home provides continuous professional
nursing care to veterans of Georgia who have served in the armed forces during war times. The home is owned and funded by the Georgia
Department of Veterans Service and operated through an interagency agreement with Augusta University. Through this association, Georgia War
Veterans Nursing Home is considered a leader in the area of geriatric educational training for Augusta University.

Job Summary

Possess knowledge regarding state, federal, VA, and The Joint Commission guidelines governing long-term care. Responsible for
supervising employees on all nursing units. Ensures that individualized quality resident care is provided for all residents. Serves as the
supervisor for the facility. Rotating shifts evenings/nights/some days.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are
not limited to:

SERVE AS SUPERVISOR FOR FACILITY:

  • Serve as Supervisor for the facility as needed.
  • Provides
    support to nursing units/staff throughout the facility.
  • Assists other nursing personnel in the administration of total resident care
    and serve as Charge Nurse or Medication Nurse for the nursing units as assigned.
  • Assess residents as needed and contact Physician,
    as needed.

RESIDENT CARE PROBLEM SOLVING:

  • Participate in problem solving affecting the care of residents with complex
    needs by assisting in the development of individualized resident care plans.
  • Assess progress made toward objective
    goals.

PROVIDE DIRECTION AND GUIDANCE:

  • Provides direction and guidance in the proper use, care, and control of
    material resources.

RESPOND TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS:

  • Responds to emergency situations by initiating emergency
    procedures and documenting proper records of emergency care.

DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures designed to affect the efficiency of Nursing Services
    operations.

MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL MANNER:

  • Maintains a professional manner at all times with residents, visitors, and
    staff.
  • Report interpersonal problems to Nurse Manager and Supervisors as necessary.

OTHER: Perform other duties as
assigned.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Nursing and
experience in the care of geriatric patients in a long-term care environment. Current, active licensure in good standing to practice as a
Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia. Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification

Preferred
Qualifications

Experience in exercising leadership skills.

Ability to assume charge nurse position in an assigned
unit.

Ability to supervise others and maintain an empathetic understanding of the physically and mentally challenged
patient

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Experience with Point Click Care is
desirable.

SKILLS

Provide excellent customer service.

Must possess good written and verbal
communication skills and proper documentation in the EHR.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain
confidentiality

Ability to assume charge nurse position on an assigned unit.

Ability to maintain an empathetic understanding
of the physically and mentally challenged residents.

Certifications/License

Must possess a current American Heart
Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification and active Georgia licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates are required to successfully
pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University.

In conjunction with an offer of employment, selected
candidate(s) will be required to successfully complete Augusta University’s Criminal Background Check process. In addition, candidates
selected for any position within Georgia War Veteran’s Nursing Home (GWVNH) will be required to successfully complete the Georgia Long-term
Care (GCHEXS) Background Check process. For specific positions, selected candidate(s) may also be required to successfully complete
supplementary pre-employment onboarding requirements such as: a physical, drug screening and/or credit check.

If applicable for the
specific position based on the duties: the candidate will also need to have a credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved
departmental Purchase Card usage.

Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University
vehicle.

For Faculty Hires: Final candidates will be required to provide proof of completed academic degree(s) as well as
post-secondary coursework in the form of original transcript(s). Those candidates trained by a foreign institution will also be required to
provide an educational/credential evaluation.
