Description
Business Services invites applications for a Surplus Property Warehouse Manager to oversee the organization, processing, reuse, recycling, sale, marketing, and transfer of surplus property for the University of Montana and select UM affiliates. This position focuses on UM’s surplus property, generating revenue from property sales, responsible and ethical reuse/redistribution, and communicating with the campus and broader Missoula community about surplus inventory.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and assistance with the identification, selection, acquisition, disposal, and delivery of quality goods and services in a cost effective, efficient and ethical manner; determine fair market values of goods
- Keep and maintains a digital record of all disposal (all methods); Creating historical reports of disposal outlining volume, revenue, expense which are to be provided to Procurement Director
- Relay to procurement reusable items to reduce new product spending
- Create and maintain policies and procedures concerning surplus property for campuses
- Strictly adhere to university rules covering receipt and deposit of cash, checks, or credit card transactions, for surplus sales
- Prepare budget estimates, revenue and expense forecasts and submit to Procurement Director each year; maintaining monthly revenue reports
- Comply with and maintain knowledge of applicable rules, legislation, regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and University vendors
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma and two (2) years of warehouse experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to lift at least 50lbs regularly as part of standard work activity and move easily up/down stairs and moderate inclines which requires mobility and physical demands. (Appropriate equipment will be provided to aid in the moving of large items)
- Forklift operator trained or the willingness to obtain this training upon hire
- The ability and willingness to travel to UM affiliate locations around the state in conjunction with inventory management
- Strong analytical skills, sound decision-making abilities, excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and basic negotiation skills
- A strong customer service mindset
- Considerable knowledge of research methods, data gathering and data analysis
- Knowledge of basic budgeting principles
- Willingness to learn website development and management to support surplus advertising and market research
- Understanding of electronic procurement environment and of Microsoft Office programs
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Technology, or related discipline or equivalent relevant experience

Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
