UM Campus Dining invites applications for a UM Starbucks Assistant Manager to supervise all Starbucks’ operations including directing and supervising all Starbucks classified employees, student employees, and temporary employees. This position reports directly to the UM Starbucks General Manager.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all personnel functions including recruitment, scheduling, training and development, shift supervision, evaluation and performance management
- Assist with ordering food and supplies, routine maintenance of equipment, and complete regular periodic inventories
- Develop and implement a complex unit operating plan, unit budget and unit assessment
- Assist in setting and maintaining high standards for receiving, producing, serving, holding, presenting and storing all food and beverage items
- Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with incoming parents and students, faculty and staff, and all other guests of both UM Campus Dining and the University of Montana
- Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment by ensuring that all sanitation, food handling and safety regulations are followed at all times
Minimum Qualifications
- Professional management and supervisory experience in a food service environment
- Experience working in a high-volume food service environment and maintaining a operation’s equipment
- Management ServSafe Certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment
- Experience with standard food service reports including profit and loss, labor analysis, and annual operating budgets
- Experience with recipe development and production of high-quality food, menus, and dining experiences
- Excellent computer skills and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, spread sheets, POS, and food management systems like CBORD
- Experience working with college students as employees and guests
- Experience with effectively training employees new to the workforce
- Experience in addressing personnel issues and dealing effectively with conflict
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills at a professional level
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a union environment
- Three (3) or more years of supervision in a high-volume food service environment
- Experience working in a high-volume coffeeshop environment
- Previous ServSafe certification
- A valid Montana driver’s license or ability to obtain one at the time of employment
Additional Information
Compensation Title: Culinary Services Assistant Manager
Bargaining Unit: FOCUS-MFPE
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Hours vary due to needs of the unit, 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
